Play Therapy
Play Therapy: ‘Birds fly, fish swim and Children Play’ (1), and it is in this play that children communicate their inner conflicts and worries through the safe distance of play. Play therapy is child – centered and integrative in nature and is usually for children between the ages of 3 – 12 years.
Children explore their place in their world, family and relationships. Processing feelings, and connections to their behaviour and coping mechanism, some of which may be adding to stress in their lives and family unit. Using children’s own language of play, we begin to work through these challenges with the view to feeling understood, processing their issues gently with the view to create self-acceptance, understanding and healing.
The play therapy process can also include a growth in understanding and potential tools for parents with the view to evolve lasting change for their child and often the family system as a whole.
